Mechanical Engineer
Interlune is a space resources company headquartered in Seattle, WA. We will provide resources from space to power a clean and sustainable economy on Earth and in space.
We are looking for a Doer who wants to join our early-stage team and accelerate humanity’s progress toward an off-world future. Our engineering team combines expert knowledge of geological sciences, mechanical engineering, automation, systems engineering, modeling and simulation, and advanced fabrication to build the infrastructure that will create an in-space economy. To join our small team, you must be agile, willing to learn, and able to take on multiple roles as needed.
We are looking to fill multiple positions in our mechanical team, with varying experience levels, who will contribute to the development of novel lunar simulants. All positions are full time in our Houston, TX facility.
Applicants from all industries are welcome, with particular emphasis in complex, multi-disciplinary system development. Familiarity with and prior experience in the space, agriculture, construction, or mining industry are valuable but not required.
Responsibilities:
- Drive hardware development from initial concept through the design, analysis, prototype, test, and manufacturing phases, and demonstrate complete end to end ownership.
- Work closely with other members of the team to develop thermal, vibration, and loading requirements.
- Design and support hardware commissioning and scaling to production.
- Support the company’s continuous improvement through developing a streamlined set of procedures, processes, forms, tools, and training related to design, analysis, and other areas.
- Participate in the hiring process, including identifying, interviewing, and on-boarding new employees.
Required Qualifications and Skills:
- B.S. in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related technical subject area.
- 1+ years of design experience in spacecraft structural design using a CAD software design package (e.g. Solidworks, NX, CATIA, or Creo).
- 1+ years experience using FEM software to perform structural analysis (e.g., ANSYS, FEMAP).
- Practical hands-on experience building hardware.
- Familiarity with common manufacturing methods (machining, welding, hand and power tools, etc.).
- Ability to operate effectively with minimal direction.
- Attention to detail and aspiration for technical excellence.
- Demonstrated track record of resourcefulness and success from previous assignments and working with interdisciplinary and multi-functional teams.
- Ability to work well in an integrated collaborative team environment including daily interactions with technicians, engineers, and managers.
- Excellent verbal, written, and graphical communication skills.
Desired Qualifications and Skills:
- M.S. in Mechanical Engineering, or related technical subject area.
- Experience on a space mission, ideally a planetary mission with surface operations, designing for abrasive dust environments.
- Experience in standing up a lab or production facility.
- Working knowledge of geology and/or planetary sciences.
- Working knowledge of mining engineering.

Compensation range:
Compensation for this position ranges from $115,000 - $145,000.
Your actual level and base salary will be decided based on your specific experience and skill level.
